Shubie Canal Bridge Consultation
What’s Happening? The existing pedestrian bridge in Shubie Park that crosses the Shubenacadie Canal near Lake Charles and Shubie Beach (Map) needs to be replaced.
The new bridge will provide an upgraded design and will facilitate required water distribution system resiliency, a wastewater collection connection and a natural gas system expansion to support the existing community and the Port Wallace future growth area.
Halifax Water held a public engagement session regarding the Shubie Canal Bridge Replacement Project on November 17, 2022 at the Fairbanks Centre, 54 Locks Road, Dartmouth. Thanks to everyone who attended. Please review the presentation for more details.
What to Expect Construction is expected to take place in 2023/24. The existing bridge will remain in place until the opening of the new bridge to allow continuous access across this portion of the Canal. The work will also take place primarily out of peak season for park users, to limit any interference with the use of Shubie Park or the associated campground.
