The Westin Hotel, formerly the Nova Scotian Hotel (c. 1928), was designed in a Beaux Arts style with symmetry and classical detailing using columns and wings. It was constructed with stone and stucco as well as bricks. The frieze and supporting pilasters of the abutting Via Rail Building continue across to the front of the Westin Hotel visually tying the two buildings together. In 1958 the building was expanded through the construction of a 12-storey addition which is complementary in materials and design.
