Background:
Highland Park Junior High School park's basketball court is located in Halifax’s North End. The park is adjacent to the Highland Park Junior High School and the park consists of a basketball court, a ball hockey court and two tennis courts. The municipality was chosen as the recipient of a grant from the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) in cooperation with the Giants of Africa to recapitalize the basketball court at this location.

The court was chosen as the recipient of a grant from the MLSE Foundation in cooperation with the Giants of Africa to receive a significant upgrade. The upgraded basketball court will be a regulation size court, with a painted acrylic surface, new back boards, bleachers, fencing and potentially lights. This court location was chosen for this significant upgrade in recognition of the African Nova Scotian population in the North End of Halifax.
